Shot this today since the pics can't do it justice. I realize it's like a newborn that I think is beautiful that maybe not everyone does...however, I don't care. I am excited and it won't ever look like this again since they are putting up drywall as I write this!

After my tour around the United States last week, I am back in the office for the time being. I was greeted this morning by progress. The walls are being framed and we are moving along as much as possible. The ASCRS symposium in Boston was great and terrifying all in one. I learned a lot and realized again that there is more to do than any single human can accomplish. Luckily, Lisa, Lizzy and soon to be Hunter Vision employee #1 (Katie) are in the mix as I need continued help on most everything. The next few weeks include flooring install, painting, decorating, IT and phone install and tons of equipment delivery. We have 10 weeks until we open. It's going to be awesome. Then we just need to actually have some people who would like to see better and we are off to the races. We spent a gajillion dollars over the last 2 days on things that I don't even know how to turn on yet. Luckily, Dr. Joel does and he will be handling that.

Along Freedom Trail

Built in 1798, the "new" State House is located across from the Boston Common on the top of Beacon Hill. The land was once owned by Massachusetts first elected governor, John Hancock. Charles Bullfinch, the leading architect of the day, designed the building.

The dome, originally made out of wood shingles, is now sheathed in copper and covered by 23 karat gold which was added to prevent leaks into the State House.

In the House of Representatives chambers hangs a wooden codfish which is called the Sacred Cod. The Sacred Cod signifies the importance of the fishing industry to the Commonwealth. At the top of the golden dome sits a wooden pinecone which symbolizes logging in Boston during the 18th century.

John Hancock (January 23, 1737 [O.S. January 12, 1736] – October 8, 1793) was a merchant, statesman, and prominent Patriot of the American Revolution. He served as president of the Second Continental Congress and was the first and third Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He is remembered for his large and stylish signature on the United States Declaration of Independence, so much so that "John Hancock" became, in the United States, a synonym for "signature".

It's been a really cool morning revisiting history class. More Hunter Vision in the next few hours!The cemetery that is across from my hotel has most of the deceased from the Boston Massacre buried there...crazy.

Boston

Meetings have gone well. Many more to attend and lots of Hunter Vision planning going on. Across the street from my hotel is an old cemetery where John Hancock is buried. There are graves there from the mid-1600's. It's pretty dang cool. It is really rainy and nasty, but it made for a cool picture. All of the old buildings and history in this place are awesome. Next year is San Diego, so I assume the weather will be a bit better, but I really like the old city. Joel gets here tomorrow for all the planning sessions as we head into the final stretch. I am glad to be on this journey. All for now. More tomorrow.

More office days...

I will be in and out of the office for the next couple of weeks. Trips to Disney and Boston loom. Disney will be fun. Lis and I are taking the kids for a few days and going to the parks and staying at Fort Wilderness (yes, where the kid was run over by a bus yesterday). That is sad. But the time together will be happy. We have not done very many family get-a-way type things and I am excited about it because it may be the last one we can do for a year or two with the new business starting and the time it takes to make that all work right.

As soon as we return, I head to Boston for the Symposium for the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators. It is actually less boring than it sounds. I will meet Joel there and we will plan and strategize for a few days together while we learn a lot and buy a lot.

Meanwhile, construction (or destruction rather) rolls on here. They began capping off all of the old and unnecessary plumbing today. That was great. No major injuries to report.

These days are fun. Many days of adventure ahead. Lisa continues to be incredibly supportive of my bizzaro schedule and I try to be home as often as I can. I know I can't do this without her help. She makes it so I can do what I need to and I am forever grateful.

As of today, everything is on schedule and on budget...we are rolling along.

Update: Derrick cut a water line while demoing a cabinet. He frantically banged on my office door while letting out a profanity laced tirade at his own idiocy. I saw the water pouring out and started to laugh. He got mad and began furiously cutting away at the wooden cabinet with a box cutter (in an apparent attempt to get to the leak). He sliced his hand so bad there was more blood than water on the floor. Then he asked if I could stitch him up. I told him "no." Now Derrick is at the ER getting stitched up. Construction is awesome. Oh yeah, the facilities guys here turned off the water, so the leak stopped too. Just a normal day at the office. It looks like it may be tomorrow before the contractors are back.

Demo starts today

This cabinet and the wallpaper are going...evidently we have some mildew to rid this room of as well!

Derrick and Jimmy are here. I am at the office and they are tearing down wallpaper and ripping out old cabinets. It is a sweet sound. The construction contract was signed yesterday and we are waiting on permit finals, but small scale, cosmetic demo has begun. This is my favorite part of everything. I love physical progress. Hunter Vision is rollin' today!

Here is the final logo in brown. I dig it. It will look great on camo, eh?

I just proofed this... in real life this logo is more brown. I'm gonna have to adjust that for the web.
